Newsprint machine shutting down

The Calhoun paper mill's newsprint machine is being shut down, and its new owner is laying off 150 employees. The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports Resolute Forest Products says part of the reason is falling demand for newsprint, as well as the machine's high operating costs.Resolute merged with the former AbitibiBowater Inc. in 2007 and this week acquired the rest of the Calhoun mill it didn't already own.The mill will continue to operate specialty paper machines and the pulp dryer. It currently employs 610.Newsprint from the plant supplied newspapers across the South. An Augusta, Ga., plant will now provide it.Resolute said affected workers will be given severance, according to the labor agreement or corporate policy for salaried employees.Resolute is headquartered in Montreal.
Using this method, 206 high-risk patients, those with a EuroSCORE of six or higher, were randomized to receive on-pump or off-pump CABG. In addition to the primary endpoint, researchers looked at participants' postoperative need for blood transfusions and re-exploration for bleeding. They found that a significantly higher percentage of on-pump patients required a blood transfusion than off-pump patients (80.2 vs. 64.9 percent, p=0.017.) The study did not find a significant difference in the need for re-exploration for bleeding with 8.5 percent of on-pump patients versus 3.2 percent of off-pump requiring a return to the operating room for excessive bleeding.Due to the lack of evidence in randomized trials for better outcomes among off-pump patients, off-pump surgery has become less popular during the past decade as it places a higher demand on surgeons' skills.
"Patients, especially the sicker and older ones, should know that there is an option to be operated off-pump with potentially better postoperative outcomes," Dr. Hlavicka said. "Our study shows the benefits of this technique to a large group of our patients. Their health care providers should offer this method to them."Hlavicka notes that his study results are limited to the first 30 postoperative days, so further observation of these patients should be done to assess the long-term outcomes of the off-pump CABG procedure. He also recommends that a larger, multicenter, randomized study be done to verify the study's conclusions.

Vanecko judge has link to old Daley Machine

When the high-profile manslaughter case of a nephew of former Mayor Richard M. Daley was shifted to a McHenry County judge, the judge quickly made one thing clear."I do not know anyone involved," Judge Maureen P. McIntyre, who got the case because of concerns regarding Cook County judges' ties to Daley, said on Jan. 18. "My family does not know anyone involved."But McIntyre, a Republican originally from New York, does have family connections to the Democratic Party in Chicago going back to the time it was run by the late Mayor Richard J. Daley, whose grandson Richard J. "R.J." Vanecko's involuntary manslaughter case is now before her, a Chicago Sun-Times investigation found.
In a politically explosive case in which connections are a central issue, McIntyre's newly revealed ties are likely to draw close scrutiny. Now divorced, McIntyre married into a family that for two generations held government patronage jobs. Her live-in ex-husband and former law partner Raymond X. Henehan's late parents both had patronage jobs in Cook County government until they retired in 1981.And fresh out of college, Henehan had government jobs in the early 1970s with Cook County, the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois. His longest tenure in those posts was two years as a traffic investigator for a Chicago City Council committee headed by Ald. Paul Wigoda (49th). He quit that patronage post a few weeks before a federal grand jury indicted Wigoda in April 1974 in connection with a bribery scheme that landed the alderman in prison.
The young federal prosecutor who put Wigoda away: Dan K. Webb, now a powerhouse attorney leading the case against Vanecko, who is charged in the 2004 death of 21-year-old David Koschman of Mount Prospect.Total Body Fitness Machine - Machines for Whole Body Workouts.Webb was appointed special prosecutor in the Koschman case last April after a series of reports in the Sun-Times cast doubt on the handling of the investigation by police and prosecutors. He is now weighing whether to bring criminal charges against anyone from the Chicago Police Department or Cook County state's attorney's office. Those agencies twice declined to charge Vanecko during the time his uncle was mayor.Henehan, 64, is a disbarred attorney who lost his license for misappropriating money from his clients. He and McIntyre, 65, divorced in 2006, but Henehan has continued to live with the judge in Barrington Hills, the Sun-Times reported last month.

Jaw crushers are a powerful tool for crushing stone or rock

The specifications will differ depending on what type of crusher you are using. One of the primary considerations in the construction of jaw crushers is the metal used for the crushing mechanism. It has to possess a breaking point that is considerably higher than the stone or rock it is attempting to break down.In order for a jaw crusher to work correctly, the crusher must have two primary metal pieces. One of these does't move or is "stationary." The other progresses inward against that piece in order to crush the stone. This allows the jaw crusher to use both "attrition and compression" to achieve its goal. Two common varieties of crusher include deep and shallow bodied types, the former being designed for greater "rock on rock" crushing.
The jaw crusher operates on the principle located in a reduction ratio. In other words, there needs to be a specific balance between the space of the crushing area and the load or amount of material introduced into it. Jaw crushers demand a general specification of a 6 to 1 reduction ratio.Double-toggle and overhead eccentric are two main types of jaw crushers used to crush rock. The double-toggle model contains a swing jaw, a stationary jaw, an offset eccentric shaft, a pivot point and a double set of toggles. The overhead eccentric style is made up of parts which include a flywheel, adjusting wedges, hydraulic rams, a pullman, a sizing gap and a crushing chamber.
To use a jaw crusher, rock must first be dropped between the machine's metal plates. The metal plates--one stationary, one moving--work together in compressing the rock, which crumbles due to its lower breaking point than the stationary plate, which is often made of manganese.Common factors used to determine which jaw crusher to use include the size of the crushing chamber's opening, the dimensions of the chamber itself and the design and material of the stationary plate. In some situations, a jaw crusher will produce the kind of crushed rock desired. In these instances, less-durable plates will suffice.Rock crushers come in many shapes and sizes, from the strictly handheld to the complex industrial sizes, which can crush tons of rock and ore in one day. Making your own rock crusher invariably requires you or someone you know to possess some basic welding skills. Iron is the ore of choice when it comes to breaking rocks into hand-sized pieces, and a skilled or even semi-skilled welder are the only people who can shape iron.

Getting Short-Term Maintenance For Your Power i Machine

I purchased a three-year maintenance contract when I bought my Power7 machine in 2010. The contract runs out in May but I need extended maintenance through July when I'm installing a new machine and returning the old machine to the leasing company. How do I extend my hardware/software maintenance for only two months without having to buy a one-year maintenance contract? This is a fairly common situation and one that IBM provides an out for in their maintenance contracts. Here's how you can sign a one- or multi-year maintenance contract for your existing machine and then cancel the contract after you replace the machine in two months.Talk to your IBM business partner or IBM and ask them to provide a maintenance quote for your old machine. You'll probably want to price out both a one-year contract and a multi-year contract, so you can see which contract gives you a less expensive quarterly price. You want to pay this contract on a quarterly basis, because you'll only be using it for a few months. Negotiate your best price.
The maintenance contract will reference and include an "IBM Master Services Attachment for ServiceElite" or a similar document that lays out the terms of service for your hardware and software maintenance. This may be a Master Services attachment that you signed in the past (maybe when you bought your machine) or one that you will sign with your new maintenance contract. The important thing is to get the Master Services attachment that will cover extended hardware and software maintenance for your machine.Under the "Renewal and Termination" section of the Master Services attachment, look for a clause that has wording similar to the following text:The key phrase here is "if you permanently remove it from production use." IBM allows you to cancel a maintenance contract if you dispose of or stop using a covered machine (removed from production use).
So since you're just keeping the machine until you can replace it and sending the covered machine back to the leasing company, you can take advantage of this clause and purchase maintenance from May through July before canceling the contract. Note that you could also take advantage of the production use clause if you had bought a machine and you were selling the old machine. The production use clause should cover both situations.Double-check with your business partner or IBM to make sure this is their understanding on canceling maintenance. However, I have used the production use clause before to cancel maintenance contracts on machines I've taken out of service, so my guess is that IBM won't have any objections to you using it now. But it's always nice to ask for verification.

Chicago Machine having trouble enforcing its will in primary

The petri dish of Democrat candidates in the special election Democrat primary for Jesse Jackson, Jr.'s former congressional seat remains teeming with candidates, despite the Chicago Democratic Machine's heavies being deployed to empty it out.So far only two have caved, Toi Hutchinson who dropped out of the race over the weekend, and Patrick Brutus, which leaves Machine pick Robin Kelly and former congresswoman Debbie Halvorson vying for the top spot in the slate of many.Today another candidate in the race, Alderman Anthony Beale, is reporting that he's been under pressure to drop out, though he won't name names. In an interview with Chicago Mag's Carol Felsenthal published today, Beale said that he had received a call to drop out, although he's "not at liberty" to divulge who, and that it was "absolutely not" an option at this point.
The Machine is having to contend with the potential of a splintered Democrat ticket that could leave their Kelly open to challenge despite whatever machinations they deploy to help her win the primary. Beale, an African American who has been attending every candidate forum (unlike Kelly) along with Debbie Halvorson, has been able to amass both contributions and support that make him a credible threat.Felsenthal wonders who put the "strong arm" on Hutchinson to make her drop out over the weekend, settling on either anti-gun maven and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle or the massive expenditures in attack ads by New York Mayor Bloomberg's PAC, now estimated at $2M.Dean Dr Sandhya Kamat said she has requested the BMC authorities to prioritise the new machine's purchase. When asked to explain the delay in the machine's procurement, Dr Kamat said she took charge only recently and hasn't had the time to go through the old files.
Under a post-Rincon legal scenario, tribes making general fund payments to the state could seek to reduce or end the payments. If the state refused, a tribe could file a lawsuit that presumably would end the same way as the Rincon case. The Brown administration believes that the Rincon case applies only to future casino deals, not previous ones that all sides had agreed to, spokesman Evan Westrup said.It was unclear last week if any tribes have expressed an interest in re-opening their agreements in light of the Rincon deal. Representatives of Inland tribes did not respond to requests for comment and the governor's office declined to comment.Crowell, the Rincon attorney, said it is unknown how courts would view an attempt to change an existing compact.

Human body an amazing machine

The human body is a magnificent machine that does amazing things. Have you wondered what your spleen does? Why do we have a gallbladder? Why is having good digestion important? How significant are the kidneys, liver and pancreas? Where does fat go when you lose weight? Are we taking our skin for granted? How about our teeth?Every part of the body plays a big role in our overall health. They're all there for a reason. The body also has company, a lot of company. Just last year, we learned from the Human Microbiome Project that we have more than 100 trillion of germs, which are found on the skin, up the nose and in the gut. There are so many microbes that they collectively weigh a few pounds. That's amazing stuff.
Doctors go to school for years to learn how all of these components work in concert and what to do when one or more of those parts is thrown off.We may not find it important to learn about which organ does what or which process keeps us alive. We may think that we should leave it up to the doctors to figure all of that out.
I think it's quite helpful to our health to learn about the body's processes and systems. It'll force us to look for signs that things are going wrong. We'll be more mindful of what we put in the body and how our body reacts to certain foods and activity. When you understand how the body works, you'll be more conscious of getting adequate water, sleep and exercise. You'll know to recognize when you're experiencing adverse reactions from certain medications or food.
Science isn't just for scientists. Dietitians undergo vigor study to be able to plan a patients' diet.Google Flights Becomes The Internet's Latest Travel Time Suck.Personal trainers must be proficient in the study of the body, particularly the muscular and skeletal systems to effectively draw up a plan for clients trying to change their bodies. The rest of us should become an expert in "me" by learning the basics and becoming aware of what's going on in your own body. Appreciate it and respect it. There's only one like it.A highly-evolved interface between airplane and its software means that the software can draw insight from the plane, reading control settings as well as sensors to improve its piloting performance. "An experienced human pilot might have [flown] 10,000 to 20,000 hours," says Langford. "We already have operating systems that have hundreds of thousands of flying hours on them. Every anomaly gets built into the memory of the system. As the systems learn, you only have to see something once in order to know how to respond. The [unmanned aircraft] has flight experience that no human pilot will ever build up in his lifetime."
