Machine chatter transforming mobile systems

Ocado, an online grocery store in England, prides itself on its delivery of refrigerated foods. When the company says the goods will arrive at a certain temperature, it means it.The promise is more than a marketing boast. Aided by chip transmitters, heat sensors and a fast-growing form of wireless communication, the boast is a measurable fact.A SIM-card module the size of a postage stamp monitors the air temperature inside each Ocado delivery van. The sensor sends data every few minutes to a computer used by fleet managers at the company's headquarters near London.Ocado says incidents of spoilage have declined since the transmitters were installed last year.
"It has saved us time and given us more confidence in our real-time monitoring, as well as being a safety check for the driver," said Paul Clarke, Ocado's director of technology, who oversees a 300-person department that develops software and hardware for the retailer. Is Ryder System's Cash Machine Slowing Down? The drone of low-density conversation between Ocado's trucks and headquarters in Hatfield, England, is one example of machine-to-machine communication, a stream of consciousness based on semiconductors that is poised to reinvigorate the mobile industry.Berg Insight, a research firm in Gothenburg, Sweden, says the number of machine-to-machine devices using the world's wireless networks reached 108 million in 2011 and will at least triple that by 2017.
Ericsson, the leading maker of wireless network equipment, sees as many as 50 billion machines connected by 2020. Only 10 billion or so are likely to be mobile phones and tablet computers. The rest will be machines, talking not to us, but to each other. The level of robotic chatter on the world's wireless networks — measured in the data load they exert on networks — is soon likely to exceed that generated by the sum of all human voice conversations taking place on wireless grids."I would say that is definitely possible within 10 years," said Miguel Blockstrand, the director of Ericsson's machine-to-machine division in Stockholm. "This is a 'what if?' kind of technology. People start to consider the potential, and the possibilities are endless."
Machine-to-machine communication has been around for more than two decades, initially run on landlines and used for controlling industrial processes remotely. With advances in mobile broadband speeds and smartphone computing, the same robotic conversations are now rapidly shifting to wireless networks. When the total amount of data traffic generated by machines overtakes that of human voice conversations — or possibly before — mobile operators will have to choose who waits in line to make a call or receive an email — the machine or the human.

Is Ryder System's Cash Machine Slowing Down?

It takes money to make money. Most investors know that, but with business media so focused on the "how much," very few investors bother to ask, "How fast?"When judging a company's prospects, how quickly it turns cash outflows into cash inflows can be just as important as how much profit it's booking in the accounting fantasy world we call "earnings." This is one of the first metrics I check when I'm hunting for the market's best stocks. Today, we'll see how it applies to Ryder System. In this series, we measure how swiftly a company turns cash into goods or services and back into cash. We'll use a quick, relatively foolproof tool known as the cash conversion cycle, or CCC for short.
Why does the CCC matter? The less time it takes a firm to convert outgoing cash into incoming cash, the more powerful and flexible its profit engine is. The less money tied up in inventory and accounts receivable, the more available to grow the company, pay investors, or both.To calculate the cash conversion cycle, add days inventory outstanding to days sales outstanding, then subtract days payable outstanding. Like golf, the lower your score here, the better. The CCC figure for Ryder System for the trailing 12 months is 17.4.
For younger, fast-growth companies, the CCC can give you valuable insight into the sustainability of that growth. A company that's taking longer to make cash may need to tap financing to keep its momentum. For older, mature companies, the CCC can tell you how well the company is managed. Firms that begin to lose control of the CCC may be losing their clout with their suppliers (who might be demanding stricter payment terms) and customers (who might be demanding more generous terms). This can sometimes be an important signal of future distress -- one most investors are likely to miss.
In this series, I'm most interested in comparing a company's CCC to its prior performance. Here's where I believe all investors need to become trend-watchers. Sure, there may be legitimate reasons for an increase in the CCC, but all things being equal, I want to see this number stay steady or move downward over time.Because of the seasonality in some businesses, the CCC for the TTM period may not be strictly comparable to the fiscal-year periods shown in the chart. Even the steadiest-looking businesses on an annual basis will experience some quarterly fluctuations in the CCC. To get an understanding of the usual ebb and flow at Ryder System, consult the quarterly-period chart below.

Dan Lawlor: Who is the Political Machine Serving?

A political machine is a group of people who seek elected office, and disperse jobs, appointments, and support one another. Political machines can be corrupting and vile, but they often attract people who need work, who are inspired by a candidate, who are attracted to politics (for the money), and, occasionally, people who are attracted to politics because they care about people. What happens when the political machine is no longer geared toward serving the working class? In the last few years, we have seen cuts at the Department of Labor and Training, loan debacles for insiders (costing millions), cuts in the budget for the developmentally disabled, proposals to tax prescription medicine, crumbling school buildings in rural and urban areas, and 12% unemployment. On local levels, we have seen cuts to summer jobs for teenagers, cuts to town firework displays, rats running around neighborhoods, higher property taxes, rising homelessness, foreclosed properties, broken bottles and broken gates at parks for working people.
So here's the question: Who is the machine serving? The people who played the game. The machine, however questionable and retrograd, once empowered immigrants and working people to move forward.Bulk X-ray machines give diamond production a lift. Now, on the state level, the machine is beginning to cut back and undermine opportunities for working people to succeed (from crumbling schools to overburdened public defenders), yet the network on the top stays the same.
In fancier language, as someone said, the superstructure remains.Look, in the big picture, the $100,000 to $200,000 a year jobs that former legislators and their family members obtain in the court system are not enormous amounts of money (Wall Street anyone?). Yet, the median income in RI is around $54,000. In Providence? $36,000. We have a right to know, transparently, the best people from a big pool of applicants are being considered for the jobs. The political machines used to be a source of summer jobs for teenagers, neighborhood clean up crews, and other assorted jobs. Not the highest paid work, sometimes done sloppily, but still a way to put money into the hands of working people, and give people a chance to work, save, and spend. Many people sent their children to private schools, and into the middle class, through these types of positions. This is not to glamorize all that type of city and state work - clearly, in some cases, better accountability and better leadership was needed. Now? More and more little people positions are being cut, in the name of the budget crisis. But wait? The people at the top of the machine are fine, or at least they think they are.

Bulk X-ray machines give diamond production a lift

X-RAY machines could become the gem production method of choice should the technology that was recently adopted by Rockwell Diamonds become successful in the next year, according to Peter Major, a mining analyst at Cadiz Corporate Solutions.X-ray machines have been used in diamond mining for years, but new Russian technology in which Rockwell Diamonds invested $1.5 million (R12.4m), can handle larger volumes and is aimed at improving efficiency and security. It was developed by Russian mining equipment and training provider Bourevestnik. Russia is a significant producer of diamonds."The processing plant is simpler and therefore carries lower maintenance requirements once commissioned," Rockwell said last week.
Using the X-ray sampling machine, Rockwell recovered 316 stones totalling 1 109 carats in the first four weeks of production at its Saxendrift tailings mine in the Northern Cape in April. This included 14 stones exceeding 10 carats, with the largest weighing 52.67 carats.Comstock Mining Commissions Crusher.Rockwell intended to introduce the bulk X-ray system at its Jasper operation as well.Diamond producer Trans Hex said it had been using X-ray technology imported from Russia for almost a year.Trans Hex said the X-ray technology had increased the recovery rate of diamonds and could be adjusted to suit the firm's production profile."The technology allows for a higher throughput and is efficient, cost effective, secure and environmentally friendly," said the company spokeswoman.
Major said the machines used at the Saxendrift mine were able to do the work of two other pieces of equipment, including that of a dense-media separation (DMS) plant, which was large and complex."Instead of processing 3 tons an hour as do current X-ray sorters in South Africa, the Russian machine is able to sort up to 100 to 150 tons an hour. They are a lot cheaper and faster for companies to process large volumes," Major said. The X-ray unit was ideal in situations where water scarcity makes DMS applications difficult. As these bulk sorters produced a high recovery yield, a conventional recovery plant was also needed.
Nico van Zyl, the marketing and new business development manager at De Beers subsidiary DebTech, said the firm had been supplying similar X-ray recovery machines for the past 30 years.During the past two years DebTech sold units to producers in South Africa, Russia and Canada. Van Zyl said the machines were highly efficient and made a significant difference in the recovery of especially low luminescent diamonds.

Comstock Mining Commissions Crusher

Comstock Mining Inc. (the "Company" or "Comstock") (NYSE Amex: LODE) announced that construction of its Crusher Facility has been completed and it has begun to commission the equipment. The testing and calibration of the facility will continue for about ten days, after which time the production process can commence with the crushing and stacking of ore onto the heap.Ore will be stock piled in front of the crusher, providing a sufficient buffer to feed an optimized blend of grade and rock type into the crusher. Much of the ore in the Lucerne will by-pass the crusher altogether after passing through the wobbler feeder and subsequent screen. The oversize material will be crushed to 100 percent minus 1.25 inches. Cement will be combined with the ore to facilitate agglomeration of the fine particles to ensure proper and continuous circulation of solution as it leaches throughout the heap.
The crushing facility has a higher capacity than will be initially utilized. This provides sufficient crushing capacity for growth, from an initial rate of 1,000,000 tons per annum up to anticipated production levels of more than 3,500,000 tons per annum, without upgrading the crusher."Commissioning the Crusher represents one of the single, most tangible steps on our March to Production," stated Corrado De Gasperis, President and CEO of Comstock Mining. "The American made equipment is state of the art and once commissioned, our team will begin crushing the ore and stacking it onto the new heap pads."
The cost to purchase, construct and install the Crusher Facility was approximately $6.3 million. Four principle contractors were used on this project: Goodfellow Corp, Boulder City, Nevada, JC industries, from Selma, Texas, A.M. Smith Electric, Inc., based in Carson City, Nevada and Lyon County contractor Cruz Construction Company Inc., based about ten miles from the mine in Mound House, Nevada.Comstock remains on schedule to complete the expansion of its Merrill Crowe processing facilities in July.  After crushing and stacking to a sufficient quantity, the Company will then commence leaching and recovering the contained precious metals through the Merrill Crowe zinc precipitation process.  "We remain on track for our first pour this summer," stated Mr. De Gasperis, "We are currently hiring our remaining processing staff for the Merrill Crowe, raising our employment to over 100 people."

The Development Course of Crushers Analysed

Do you know the history of ore crusher, the old pestles invented by our ancestors are simple rudiments, though it is a very simple crushing tool,it has the certain crushing function. so, it is not too much to say that the old pestles are crusher's ancestors. To the time 200 BC~100BC, feet operating hammer appeared, this tool had already equipped with the basic function of a crusher, due to the using of lever principle.Modern crusher was developed from the western industrial revolution. In 1858, jaw crusher was born in the United States, it was designed and manufactured by an American named Blake. Its structural form is double- elbow -plates jaw crusher. Jaw crusher can be used in coarse crushing process, and can also be used in medium and fine crushing process, especially in underground crushing assignments and medium and small mobile crushing devices.
The world's first cone crusher is primary designed by American Symons brothers.Till now, many domestic manufacturers of cone crusher name their crushers 'Symons'. It is about 1920 that Symons Cone Crusher applied in crushing mills. In 1948, an American company researched and developed the hydraulic cone crusher, It can expel the uncrushable materials that entered into the crushing cavity, and can adjust the discharging mouth size during operating, producing the granularity with a uniform size.Stone Crushing Plant Are Widely Used: Cone Crusher. To the 1970s, along with the development of technology, automatic controller has been developed to be used to control the hydraulic cone crusher.Cone crusher has advantages of big crushing ratio, high efficiency, less energy consumption and uniform granularity size.Suitable for medium, fine, and superfine crushing of hard rock and ore materials.
Impact crusher emerged in time of the second world war, it is a crushing equipment with new style and high-efficient.The first impact crusher designer is Doctor Henderson. It can be used for cement, asbestos, glass, chemical industries and do coarse, medium, fine crushing. Impact crusher can be divided into the single gear impact crusher and double gear impact crusher, whose specifications is defined by rotor diameter and length. The first patent of gyratory crusher was applied by American Charles Brown in 1878, and the first gyratory crusher was sold in 1881 by the Chicago Gates iron factory.Gyratory crusher is widely used in large and medium-sized sand processing mills and large quarrys, for coarsely breaking various hardness of rock and ore materials.

What Equipment Do I Need For Aggregate Crushing?

Crushed aggregate is a combination of stone, gravel, sand, and slag, used in the construction of homes, infrastructure, businesses, and roads. Crushed aggregate is made from natural raw materials and making it involves the use of several heavy machines. Once the process is finished, the result is crushed aggregate, a material the construction industry can't do without.Large rocks are mined from gravel pits or quarries and transported to the surface, where they are usually placed in dump trucks. Once on top, the rocks are sifted for smaller pieces and debris with the aid of a powerful vibrating conveyor belt. The conveyor belt transports the materials to the jaw crusher, which is really the first step in aggregate crushing. The jaw crusher is made of two plates, rather like a human mouth. It crushes the rock between the two plates and then "swallows" it, pouring it out onto another conveyor belt, which takes it to an impact crusher.
An impact crusher flings the rocks against hard plates, causing them to split and break into much smaller pieces. They're then put on a vibrating screen, which acts as a large filter through which the crushed aggregate is sorted by size. The finer the aggregate needed, the more it gets filtered; this allows quarries to sell different types of crushed aggregate to customers, based on the project at hand.Crushed aggregate is then transported to the work site by dump trucks. Most crushed aggregate is produced within forty miles of where it's used, though longer distances are not unheard of, and about ninety percent of it is transported by dump trucks.
Of course, there are many other machines involved in aggregate crushing. The hydraulic cone crusher is good for crushing rocks into medium, fine, or super-fine grade aggregate, and can be adjusted according to what the customer needs. A spring cone crusher is used for rocks of medium-to-hard hardness levels, and has a variable-sized crushing chamber. A sand-maker crushes rock, including metal ores, into extremely fine aggregates, while a drying hammer crusher is a floor-to-ceiling machine that specializes in soft or moist raw materials. Finally, a ring hammer crusher specializes in both moist and dry aggregates, and pounds them down to size with a series of hammers.Aggregate crushing is a long, laborious process, involving a number of stages and several pieces of heavy machinery. Regardless, crushed aggregate is a necessary component of almost any construction project.SkipDash Material Service is a leading marketer of producer and supplier location-based media for the Crushed Stone, Sand and Gravel industry, and the Asphalt and Ready Mix Concrete industries.

Stone Crushing Plant Are Widely Used: Cone Crusher

Rock crusher use: rock crusher can be widely used in mining, metallurgy,Cement equipment building material, highway, railway, water conservancy and chemical industry and many other department. Rock crusher classification: crusher broken the modes of action according to force can be roughly divided into two broad categories crusher: crusher and grinding machine. (1) cone crusher general handle more chunks of materials, products are coarse granularity, usually more than 8 mm. The structure characteristics of the broken pieces is a certain gap between, don't touch each other. Crusher and can be divided into the crushing machine,Impact crusher in broken machines and finely machine. Crusher including: jaw cruser, hammer crusher, spinning back crusher, compound crusher, hydraulic crusher, deep cavity crusher, roll crusher,Flotation separator cone crusher symons, hydraulic cone crusher, Europe version jaw crusher,Jaw breaker etc. (2) the grinding machine generally grinding machine handling materials is fine, the product is fine grain size, can amount to 0. 074 mm, or even fine some.Vsi Sand Making Machine Has Advantages For Mining. The structure is broken parts (or medium) contact with each other, the media is gangqiu,Sand washing equipment steel bar, gravel or ore blocks, etc. But some machine is broken mine concurrently at the same time and the grinding effects, such as the grinding machine. For five. 5 multiply one. 8 meters from grinding machine processing ore size limit can reach 350-400-mm, the product can reach-fineness 200 mesh 40% or so. Grinding machine including: ladder-shaped, European, grinding,Hammer crusher coal mill, superfine grinding, coarse grinding, micro powder mill,Stone crushing plant high pressure grinding, Raymond grinding roller suspension, grinding, through grinding, since the grinding machine, the ball mill, the cement ground, etc.
It is the intermittent movement of the broken. The hammer apparatus for a simple construction, reliable and can break the hard material advantages and is widely used in dressing, building materials, silicate and ceramics industrial department. Cone type ore crusher apply to break in the rubble finely homework or mechanical. And the smaller the homework in discharging the uniformity of the particle size is usually better than crushing operational requirements of high, therefore, in the bottom of the crushing cavity will establish a parallel area, at the same time, still must speed up the broken cone spinning back speed, so that the material in the parallel by more than one extrusion. Roller type jaw crusher is to use the friction roller materials will bite into the crushing area, make the bear squeezing or fracturing and broken machines.
